Roosevelt Stadium Eagles concert in Jersey City, NJ – July 29, 1976

The Roosevelt Stadium Eagles concert in Jersey City was performed before an overflow crowd of over 25,000 people, despite periodic rain showers and poor stadium conditions. A newspaper review states that “an absolutely astounding version of Meisner’s Take It To the Limit” was performed that night. This New Jersey show was the next evening after their 2-night performance at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Then they were back to the west coast by August 3 for a Day On the Green concert in Oakland, CA.

For this Jersey City “One Of These Nights” tour stop Boz Scaggs opened for the Eagles, playing what was described as white soul, blues, disco, and rock.

“Pretty soon the Eagles were all sounding like a band of good old boys from southern Georgia, hitting the beat with admirable abandon.”

Newark Star Ledger (Newark, NJ) – Aug. 1, 1976
The writer incorrectly states that Joe Walsh was a former member of the Jones Gang, but it was actually the James Gang.

“The Eagles are one of the few bands to boast of three lead guitarists.”

“During their two hour plus performance, the Eagles played a total of 21 songs, including four numbers from Walsh’s solo career such as ‘Rocky Mountain Way’ and ‘Turn to Stone’.”

“Among those included in the show were ‘Doolin’ Dalton,’ ‘Desperado,’ ‘Lyin’ Eyes,’ an absolutely astounding version of Meisner’s ‘Take It To the Limit,’ ‘Already Gone,’ ‘One Of These Nights,’ ‘Good Day in Hell,’ ‘Witchy Woman,’ ‘James Dean,’ ‘The Best of My Love,’ and ‘Tequila Sunrise,’.”
