Rosilee St. Nicholas of the WCR talks to South Dakota NewsCenter1 in Rapid City on September 12, 2023 about being in the World Classic Rockers and about Randy Meisner. When she speaks of Randy, it is evident that the two of them had a very special bond and friendship while in the WCR band. The photo above is of Rosilee and Randy’s wife, Lana Meisner.
In the news station video below she speaks of being asked to sing Amazing Grace at Randy’s Los Angeles memorial service at the Troubadour with Vince Gill. This memorial service is believed to have been held on August 20, 2023, since that was the date of the earthquake Rosilee mentions. The service closed with everyone there singing Take It To The Limit.
It’s wonderful that Randy’s peers were able to honor him at the Troubadour, where they had all spent so much time in their early years of making music. There were 61 friends and peers in attendance, all specially invited to attend. It sounds like it was a very respectful and classy memorial service.
An online article from the Dakota Scout site is below. It mentions that Don Henley was the emcee of Randy’s Los Angeles memorial service. Rusty Young’s wife, Mary, shared on the Poco Facebook page that she was also there. It was also shared on the Poco Facebook page that Don Felder was there in addition to Mary, Rosilee, Vince Gill, Timothy B. Schmit, and Don Henley. It would be lovely to someday see a complete guest list.
Rolling Stone printed that Timothy B. was there, too. Here’s what Timothy said in Rolling Stone in September 2023:
“Randy was an important part of my story. I was part of the private memorial we had for him at the Troubadour in L.A., just a small crowd of invited people. When my turn to say something came, I talked about the incredible professional karmic tie we had. I replaced him in Poco. And then I replaced him in the Eagles. I never worked closely with Randy, but we were always really friendly. We were glad to see each other when we did.”
