Eagles Jerry Brown Benefit at the Capital Centre – May 14, 1976

The Eagles Jerry Brown Benefit was May 14, 1976 at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD. The purpose of the benefit was to raise money for his presidential campaign. Guests on stage with the Eagles for the Jerry Brown Benefit were Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and Kenny Edwards. Kenny Edwards was a founding member of the Stone Poneys and Bryndle and a long-time collaborator with Linda Ronstadt and Karla Bonoff.

Not quite a year later on March 21 and 22, 1977 the Eagles had their well-known shows at the Capital Centre where Randy had a flawless performance of “Take It To the Limit”. (Eight songs from the performances of those two nights in 1977 are on the third disc included with the History of the Eagles documentary. Maybe someday the Eagles will release the remaining songs from the 1977 Capital Centre shows on DVD.)

There are several audios of songs from this Benefit at the Capital Centre in 1976 directly below, and Jerry Brown’s video segment from HOTE giving his thoughts on the legacy of the Eagles is at the end of this page.

An excerpt from a lengthy article in the Miami Herald (Miami, FL) – Aug. 29, 1976

“And then there was the stilted atmosphere surrounding him at the party that night. Browne’s wife had just committed suicide and the other artists on the benefit bill had gone out of their way to be solicitous toward him.”

Evening Star (Washington, DC) – Oct. 24, 1976

  1. Preachy Politics and entertainment! Linda Ronstadt got it right in the article. She was uncomfortable with it. Lots of great photos in here.
