Kiel Opera House Eagles concert in St. Louis, MO – Dec. 13, 1973

The Kiel Opera House Eagles concert was December 13, 1973 in St. Louis and was part of their Desperado tour. Dan Fogelberg was with them and opened the show. This performance at Kiel’s was two days after their concert at Atlantic Christian College in North Carolina.

Daniel Fogelberg, a good guitarist with a gentle, bluesy voice, opened the evening. His ability was superior to his songs, which he composed.”

“Ol’ 55” was a song that Bernie Leadon sang backup on, but he was not the lead vocal as stated in the State Journal-Register below. Both Glenn Frey and Don Henley sang lead on this song. The song was written by Tom Waits, and Tom has been quoted as saying that he does not care for the Eagles nor their version of his song.

“Thursday night in St. Louis the Eagles promised the audience at Kiel’s Opera House that ‘we won’t get crazy, we’re just going to get high on music,’ and then as if to emphasize their philosophy, hit the audience with ‘Take It Easy.’ The audience was theirs after that.”
