The Red Rocks Eagles concert was a 2-day event in Morrison, Colorado, at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. This was a stop on the One Of These Nights tour. In the book “Colorado Rocks” by G. Brown, Red Rocks Amphitheatre is described as the premiere outdoor venue of the world. At the bottom of this page is a PBS mini-documentary video about Red Rocks.
The Eagles were in Seattle at the Seattle Center Coliseum two days later on the 21st. At this point, Bernie’s duration in the Eagles was winding down.
According to the book “Red Rocks: The Concert Years” by G. Brown:
“The Eagles were booked for two shows, August 18 and 19. The band’s original opening act, Dan Fogelberg, became too ill to perform, so Tom Waits, already in town to play the Denver nightclub Ebbets Field, was recruited to replace Dan. Although the idiosyncratic singer-songwriter had written ‘Ol’ 55′, which the Eagles had covered on one of their albums, Waits was a disaster; the crowd didn’t warm up to his mongrel musical style.”
From tomwaitslibrary.info where the Red Rocks performance is listed, below is an excerpt from that performances list:

Sunday Denver Post (Denver, CO) – Aug. 3, 1975
“Henley and Frey discussed the formation of a band and when, in 1971 bassist Randy Meisner left Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band and Bernie Leadon, a versatile instrumentalist, exited the Flying Burrito Bros., the Eagles were formed. Meisner, a native of Nebraska, had established himself as a studio musician through recording sessions with artists like James Taylor prior to joining Nelson’s group.”

Thank you Diana! Very interesting read and pictures! I appreciate your work!
Thank you. It’s a labor of love.
I always wanted to see a concert at Red Rocks, and then to see the Eagles there. Must have been spectacular! Thanks for all the information you gathered here.
It would have been a wonderful concert experience. Climbing all those steps might have been not so fun, though. LOL
