That Time I Tried To Interview the Eagles At A Salad Bar
A very nice article and tribute to Randy is below. A student who was a reporter for Lock Haven’s school newspaper at the time of the Eagles concert ‘almost’ got to interview the Eagles before the show.

“The future of next semester’s Homecoming concert will depend on the May concert. If the Eagle’s concert does not pay off financially, it will be the last big concert for some time at Lock Haven State College.”

“The Eagles, John Hartford and Pousette Dart Band are much better choices. People (college students) know who the Eagles are, what type of music they play and recent hits (name one recent hit of Earl’s).”

“The evening, which started later than planned, began with The Pousette Dart String Band.”

“Second in the line up for Tuesday night was the well-known John Hartford, banjo, guitar, and fiddle musician.”

“Finishing up the rather exciting evening was The Eagles, a group that has seemed to grow in popularity in the past two years, and is still climbing upward now.”

“As the top-billed group, The Eagles, finished the concert on a very satisfying note, they were brought back for two encores and left the audience in an uproar.”

“With no car, I walked the two miles from my dorm, High Hall, to the hotel and headed directly for the restaurant. My enterprising young reporter skills paid off, briefly, because standing there at the salad bar was Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon, Glenn Frey and Don Henley. Wow, the actual Eagles.”

“A little more than a year later The Eagles were the cover photo of Rolling Stone Magazine.”

  1. The writer for the college newspaper described “Already Gone” as a ballad, but it is funny that the Eagles dedicated the song to Richard Nixon. Bill Mahon was a very enterprising student and his story is great. Great find!
