The NARM (National Association of Record Merchandisers) Awards Banquet for 1976 retail sales was held at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on March 7, 1977. The Eagles were presented with the Best Selling Group Album award, and Glenn Frey accepted that award on behalf of the Eagles band. Linda Ronstadt won a couple of awards that night, too.
This is an annual 4-day convention with the banquet held on the last evening. By looking at the convention schedule it looks like it was a very busy four days. The banquet is the last event on the schedule, and the entertainment was Tony Orlando and Dawn.
Notice how everyone in the photo of winners and presenters is dressed nicely, as you would expect for an awards banquet. And then there is Glenn…in a Notre Dame shirt.
The Eagles won Best Selling Group Album for “Their Greatest Hits 1971-75”. Glenn accepted the award for the Eagles.
Linda Ronstadt won in two categories:
Best Selling Album By A Female Artist “Hasten Down the Wind” and also Best Selling Album By A Female Country Artist “Hasten Down the Wind”.

“The NARM Awards are the only industry awards based on what is actually sold in the nation’s retail stores.”
